It is important to recognize that BCS teams can more easily finish in the final TOP 25 rankings than non – BCS teams due to the bias favoring BCS teams by the BCS poll voters and BCS computer programs. During an average BCS year, 23 BCS teams were ranked in the final TOP 25 rankings with 5 BCS teams having 4 losses each and 1 BCS team with 5 losses. Only 2 non – BCS were ranked in the final TOP 25 rankings with an average ranking of 16th. All of the 25 non – BCS teams ranked in the final TOP 25 rankings during the 10 BCS years had 2 losses or less except for Bowling Green (11-3) in 2003 and Fresno State (9-3) in 2004. Never has a non – BCS team with 4 or 5 losses been ranked in the final TOP 25 rankings during the 10 BCS years (click here to see details per TABLE 1: BCS NATIONAL CHAMPION / NON – BCS TEAMS PRESEASON CONSENSUS RANKINGS FOR TEN (10) BCS YEARS 1998 – 2007 (TABLE 1) Click here to see details of all 119 teams' preseason consensus / postseason rankings for 10 – year BCS era per TABLE 3: COMPARISON OF DIVISION 1 – A / FBS PRESEASON CONSENSUS RANKINGS AND POSTSEASON FOR TEN (10) BCS YEARS 1998 – 2007 (TABLE 3)
